Assistant Financial Manager - Hospitality Group

About the role

A prestigious hospitality group with properties in Somerset West and Plettenberg Bay is looking for an experienced, hands-on Assistant Financial Manager. The role is based at the Somerset West property and oversees the finance of the two Plettenberg Bay properties, with regular travel there. It is an on-site Monday to Friday position open to candidates living in or able to stay within the Helderberg vicinity.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day finance function of the Somerset West property and oversee the finance of the two Plettenberg Bay properties
• Manage creditors, debtors, guest accounts, deposits and OTA/agent commissions
• Review daily cash-ups, card machine and bank reconciliations and investigate variances
• Prepare monthly management packs (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow, budget comparisons) and weekly flash reports on revenue, cash and key costs
• Own food, beverage, guest amenities and other cost-of-sale controls, and conduct monthly stock takes
• Review purchasing, supplier pricing, wastage, breakages and complimentary items
• Assist with annual budgets, rolling forecasts and cash-flow forecasting
• Support management on pricing, staffing, capital expenditure and revenue opportunities
• Maintain accurate accounting records, manage Sage One and prepare VAT submissions, supporting PAYE, UIF and SDL compliance
• Assist with year-end processes and external audits, review payroll inputs and overtime, and train operational teams on cash handling and stock control
• Supervise junior finance or administration staff where applicable

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or Assistant Financial Manager role
• At least 3 years in hospitality, preferably lodges, hotels, guest houses or resorts
• Proven month-end and management reporting experience, and strong F&B cost control and stock take experience
• Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related field; SAIPA, CIMA or ACCA progress is advantageous
• Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to Plettenberg Bay about 5 days per month

What we offer

• Salary of R35,000 to R45,000 per month depending on experience
• 15 days' leave and a full-time permanent opportunity
