Artisan (Production) - Mechanical Equipment Maintenance

About the role

General Printing Works (GPW) is recruiting a mechanical equipment maintenance artisan for its Pretoria site. The role covers the maintenance and repair of all equipment at GPW sites, keeping production running safely and efficiently. The salary is R253 341.00 per annum (OSD).

Key responsibilities

• Carry out efficient maintenance and repair of all equipment at GPW sites, following scheduled maintenance and lead times as instructed.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance work through work orders and escalate repairs that delay production or pose risks to health, safety and the environment.
• Assist with root cause analysis of equipment breakdowns and inspect mechanical equipment, reporting faults to the supervisor.
• Perform and monitor quality assurance of maintenance and repair work, and help prepare maintenance and repair reports.
• Manage work orders: receive them from the supervisor each morning, complete the job, and report back once finished.
• Handle administration: submit reports, manage leave, handle time and attendance, and attend meetings and training.
• Ensure safety, health, environment and quality (SHERQ) compliance, including proper use of PPE and regular risk assessments.

Required profile

• Grade 10 or equivalent qualification plus a completed apprenticeship.
• Trade Test Certificate in the Printing Industry; Grade 12 and printing industry experience are advantages.
• No experience required.
• Must obtain a positive security clearance and hold a valid driver's licence.
• Understanding of the Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act, SHREQ requirements and the Skills Development Act, and of safety requirements in a manufacturing environment.
