Accounts Manager

About the role

Afritrek Logistics is seeking an experienced Accounts Manager to lead the finance function across its five branches. Based at the Johannesburg head office, the role oversees consolidated reporting, month‑end and year‑end processes, budgeting, cash‑flow management and statutory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full accounts function for all branches, ensuring consistent processes, controls and reporting standards.
• Prepare consolidated monthly management accounts with branch‑level profitability and variance analysis.
• Own month‑end and year‑end close processes, including journals, accruals, provisions and inter‑company reconciliations.
• Monitor group cash flow, daily cash positions, working capital and liaise with banks.
• Develop and track budgets and forecasts for each branch and the group, flagging variances.
• Ensure statutory compliance (VAT, PAYE, income tax) and coordinate with external auditors and tax practitioners.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable, supplier payments, fleet/fuel cost accounting and debtor control.
• Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls to safeguard assets and reduce fraud risk.
• Manage, mentor and review performance of branch accounting and bookkeeping staff.
• Act as primary contact for annual audits and coordinate information requests.
• Maintain and improve accounting systems across the group for accurate transaction recording.
• Provide financial insight to support operational decisions by branch managers and executive management.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or related field (BCom Accounting or equivalent).
• Professional qualification such as SAIPA, CIMA or progress towards CA(SA) is advantageous.
• 5‑7 years of experience in a similar accounts/financial management role, with at least 2 years managing staff.
• Strong logistics or transport industry experience.
• Proven ability to manage finance across multiple sites and deliver accurate consolidated reporting.
