Accountant / Bookkeeper – Hospitality Finance Team

About the role

Our client, a well‑established hospitality business, is looking for a detail‑oriented Accountant / Bookkeeper to join their Finance team in Johannesburg. The role is fast‑paced and high‑volume, focusing on daily financial processing, order tracking, invoicing, and reconciling point‑of‑sale transactions using Xero and Yoco.

Key responsibilities

• Process daily financial transactions on Xero, matching purchase orders with supplier invoices and delivery notes.
• Maintain an organised digital and/or physical filing system for all financial documents.
• Generate and issue customer invoices, code them correctly to cost centres, and follow up on outstanding amounts.
• Download, interpret and reconcile Yoco sales reports against bank deposits and Xero records, investigating any discrepancies.
• Reconcile cash, card and online payment takings across multiple revenue streams.
• Support month‑end activities including accruals, general ledger entries, and reporting deadlines.
• Assist the Financial Manager with ad‑hoc reporting, audit queries and budget variance analysis per venue or event.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Bookkeeping or a related field (advantageous).
• 2–3 years of bookkeeping/accounting experience, preferably in hospitality, retail or another high‑transaction environment.
• Proven ability to process large volumes of invoices and orders accurately.
• Experience with procurement processes and negotiating supplier terms.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Xero Accounting software.
• Working knowledge of Yoco POS reporting and reconciliation.
• Strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, pivot tables and basic reconciliation formulas.
