VAT Tax Consultant – Indirect Tax Advisory

About the role

This position supports the VAT consulting practice, delivering high‑quality advice and compliance services to clients. You will work under senior guidance to develop opinions, reports and other deliverables while building technical expertise in indirect tax.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with all aspects of VAT consulting and compliance projects.
• Produce accurate, well‑structured work and ensure appropriate review.
• Draft VAT opinions, memoranda, reports and other client deliverables.
• Analyse factual scenarios, apply VAT legislation and identify relevant issues.
• Conduct technical VAT research and summarise findings for senior review.
• Prepare proposals, fee quotes and business‑development materials as required.
• Develop professional relationships with colleagues and clients through reliable delivery and clear communication.
• Participate in team discussions, internal technical sessions and formal training initiatives.
• Adapt to changing priorities, work demands and client requirements.

Required profile

• Foundational knowledge of the VAT Act and Tax Administration Act.
• BCom, CA (SA), LLB, HDip (Tax) or a comparable qualification.
• 1–3 years of VAT experience, preferably in compliance, technical research, drafting opinions or audit/due‑diligence.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
• Effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
• Adaptable, organised and able to work in diverse team and client environments.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
