Tactical Technical Purchaser

About the role

A leading international maritime technology and engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Tactical (Technical) Purchaser (Level 1) to join its Cape Town‑based Procurement team. The role combines technical understanding with strong commercial and procurement skills to ensure materials and services are delivered on time, within budget and to required quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Execute sourcing activities, manage RFQs, supplier evaluations and bid comparisons for raw materials, components and services.
• Develop procurement plans aligned with project schedules, monitor purchase orders and coordinate deliveries to support project milestones.
• Build and maintain relationships with local and international suppliers, monitor performance against cost, quality and delivery KPIs, and resolve issues.
• Negotiate pricing, delivery and contractual terms, conduct market research and identify cost‑saving and value‑engineering opportunities.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement, purchasing or supply chain within engineering, manufacturing, mining, marine or project‑based environments.
• Diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Engineering or a related field.
• Proven supplier management and commercial negotiation experience.
• Strong analytical, planning and organisational abilities.

• Interpretation of technical specifications, Bills of Materials and engineering drawings
• Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) evaluation
