Shipping Clerk – Import Coordination (China Focus)

About the role

The company is seeking a highly organised Shipping Clerk to manage import shipments, primarily from China. You will ensure accurate documentation, customs compliance, and timely delivery of goods while supporting the logistics team in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor import shipments from international suppliers, with a focus on China.
• Liaise with freight forwarders, customs agents, shipping lines, suppliers and transport providers.
• Prepare, verify and maintain shipping and customs documents such as commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading and certificates of origin.
• Track shipments from origin to final delivery and provide regular updates to internal stakeholders.
• Assist with customs clearance, resolve queries or delays, and reconcile shipment quantities against purchase orders.
• Monitor shipment costs, ensure budget compliance and maintain accurate records.
• Support inventory and procurement teams by ensuring timely movement of imported goods.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) minimum; logistics or related qualification advantageous.
• At least 3 years of experience in shipping, logistics, imports or supply chain.
• Proven experience coordinating imports from China.
• Strong knowledge of import/export procedures, customs clearance and Incoterms (FOB, CIF, EXW, DDP).
• Valid driver’s licence advantageous.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience using ERP or logistics management systems.
• Understanding of Incoterms and customs regulations.
