SHERQ Officer – Richards Bay

About the role

We are seeking a highly certified SHERQ Officer to be deployed immediately on electrical infrastructure, network enhancement and sub‑station projects in the Richards Bay area. The role focuses on implementing, enforcing and managing Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality (SHERQ) plans in high‑voltage environments.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems (ORHVS) on‑site, including hazardous area labeling, isolation protocols and earthing measures.
• Coordinate with grid control officers and authorized switching teams to ensure safe isolation and hand‑back of live systems.
• Maintain compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Construction Regulations and high‑risk safety file specifications (QM 58, 32‑726).
• Audit and manage master contractor and subcontractor health‑and‑safety files, preparing them for external audits.
• Lead Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) and conduct Root‑Cause Analysis (RCA) for near‑misses or incidents.
• Perform site quality checks against client‑approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and deliver regular safety statistics.
• Facilitate toolbox talks, risk inductions and behavioural safety campaigns to promote a zero‑harm culture.

Required profile

• Valid ORHVS certification with active authorization.
• Current registration with the SACPCMP as a Professional Construction Health and Safety practitioner.
• Proven experience in high‑voltage construction or electrical infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of South African occupational health and safety legislation.
