Senior Technical Specialist (Application Support Specialist, ITSM)

About the role

The Enterprise Infrastructure and Services division of the University of Cape Town is hiring a Senior Technical Specialist (Application Support Specialist, ITSM) in Cape Town. The role develops the ServiceNow-based IT service management solution through business requirement gathering, solution specification, implementation and adoption work with business units, while providing technical leadership in a complex, heterogeneous environment. It is a permanent position in payclass 12 reporting to a senior manager.

Key responsibilities

• Gather business requirements, specify solutions and implement the ITSM (ServiceNow) system and its service components
• Design, maintain, manage and develop the ITSM business-critical ICT system and infrastructure service components
• Develop and implement systems and services through project work
• Provide technical leadership

Required profile

• NQF level 7 qualification and 5 years' experience in enterprise ICT applications and infrastructure, of which 3 years must be relevant
• Current hands-on technical experience
• Experience designing, configuring, administering and developing ITSM solutions, and implementing solutions using ITIL or other ITSM frameworks
• Proven experience developing Service Catalogues, CMDB, workflows and reporting
• Project management principles and proven ability to define business requirements, analyse systems and solve problems
• Excellent written and spoken communication, customer service ethic and teamwork

Required skills

• ServiceNow Implementation Specialist certification (CIS) or better
• JavaScript, CSS and HTML
• Advantageous: authentication and federation technologies (CAS, SimpleSAMLphp, ADFS, Shibboleth)
• Advantageous: advanced Linux and/or Windows administration, virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix), network services (DNS, DHCP) and data analysis
