Senior Site Laboratory Manager - Civil Engineering (KZN/EC)

About the role

SGS Matrolab is looking for a Civil-Senior Site Laboratory Manager in the KZN/EC region (Durban). The role covers all laboratory-related tasks on site, including the implementation, maintenance and improvement of quality systems, keeping equipment clean and maintained, and ensuring materials testing is completed across all laboratory divisions such as soils, asphalt, seals, concrete and aggregates.

Key responsibilities

• Manage laboratory production planning on site and meet deadlines
• Liaise with clients and the relevant regional manager
• Ensure reports are accurate before signing and distribution
• Implement quality control systems and health and safety regulations in and around the laboratory
• Supervise a multi-disciplinary site laboratory covering soils, concrete, asphalt, seals and aggregates
• Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system
• Assist technicians with jobs on site and in the laboratory, and perform other reasonable tasks assigned by the site supervisor, laboratory manager and regional manager
• Follow SGS policies and procedures on site, including payroll, leave and disciplinary procedures
• Provide training to staff as needs are identified, and complete mandatory training such as OI Toolbox, Annual Integrity and social media
• Submit timesheets, claim forms and payroll instructions to the relevant departments on time

Required profile

• Grade 12 and a Civil, Geotechnical or National Diploma
• 10 years of relevant experience
• Driver's licence
• Competent and qualified to carry out all tests in soils, asphalt, seals, concrete and aggregates, and to supervise and execute field work
• Familiar with COLTO
