Senior Operations Manager – Manufacturing Plant

About the role

Universal Recycling Company is looking for a senior‑level Operations Manager to oversee its large metal‑recycling plant in Johannesburg. The role combines hands‑on technical oversight with strategic leadership to ensure the plant meets production, safety and cost targets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all production and operational activities, driving throughput and efficiency.
• Develop and manage production schedules and plant budgets.
• Oversee maintenance teams, implement preventive maintenance and minimise downtime.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Monitor, analyse and report key performance indicators and plant metrics.
• Coach, develop and manage supervisors, artisans and operational staff.
• Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and disciplined execution.

Required profile

• Completed trade qualification (Electrician, Millwright or Mechanical Fitter) with Trade Test certification.
• Proven experience managing production, maintenance and people in a heavy‑industrial or manufacturing plant.
• Strong operational leadership, problem‑solving and decision‑making under pressure.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
