Senior Civil/Structural Design Engineer

About the role

SGS Bateman's multidiscipline engineering team provides integrated engineering services for processing plants and related operations, turning conceptual designs into operational manual processing plants. As a Senior Civil/Structural Design Engineer you will ensure efficient, competent civil or structural designs and produce accurate design documents that enable successful project execution.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a discipline strategy and design criteria suited to each project, adhere to the project programme and monitor planning so deliverables are met on time
• Attend project meetings, produce regular status reports and generate post-project feedback
• Produce cost-effective, safe civil and structural designs, including tender designs, and compare project versus tender scope
• Review alternatives, produce quantity and man-hour budgets, and monitor changes to scope and budgets
• Verify civil and structural engineering software packages and order-of-magnitude check analysis results
• Maintain records of calculations, correspondence and technical information, and index them for easy reference
• Liaise with the Drawing Office and other departments, guide suppliers and sub-contractors, and approve final drawings for construction
• Follow company specifications, statutory codes and global SHE standards, follow QA procedures, take part in quality assurance audits and monitor vendor and site quality
• Apply the internal Project Management Operating System, discipline engineering standards and suggest continuous improvements

Required profile

• B.Sc., B.Eng. or B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering
• Registered as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) with ECSA, or eligible and able to obtain registration within 12 to 24 months of joining
• At least 8 years of experience in engineering design and project management within processing or petrochemical plant projects
• Strong commitment to professional development and engineering excellence

Required skills

• Project management and knowledge of the project life cycle
• Civil and structural design criteria, commercial principles and technical documentation
• Plant layout, materials fundamentals, construction and commissioning, and civil/structure investigation
• Dynamics structures, cost estimation, quantity estimation and engineering calculations
• Office automation and graphic software, CAE software (e.g. PROKON and Strand7)
• Knowledge of legislation, standards and quality methods
