Scheme Manager - QHSE

About the role

SGS, a global inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is looking for a Scheme Manager for its QHSE technical area in Sandton. The role provides technical, administrative and systems support to the Technical Manager and the auditors in these areas, manages QHSE certification products and auditor teams according to standards and accreditation requirements, and keeps the Lead Auditor status for at least one standard.

Key responsibilities

• Manage QHSE product requirements and support auditors with administrative, IT and audit issues, with the Technical Manager's help
• Manage auditor competency records, support qualification and approval, and train auditors and staff on certification competencies
• Maintain local accreditation for ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and take part in accreditation assessments, internal audits (L2 and L3) and impartiality committee meetings
• Help with audit planning, prepare audit findings and reports, and review audit packs for certification decisions
• Support business development for the Business Assurance business and liaise with external stakeholders
• Provide technical support to the BA Academy on new training material and courses, and meet unit performance targets and KPIs

Required profile

• Minimum 3-year tertiary qualification in quality, environment or health and safety
• 5-10 years' general work experience, including at least 2 years in a quality, environment or health and safety role
• Project and operations management experience
• Advantageous: managing competency records, onboarding, first-level system support, KPI reporting, customer service, exposure to certification bodies and ISO 17021/17065

• Quality, environment and health and safety fundamentals, data accuracy, record keeping and document control
• Clear written and verbal communication and stakeholder engagement
• Training auditors and BA staff on SGS BA systems
• Advantageous: ISO standards, CertIQ or DigiApp, audit management systems, Excel, Power BI dashboards, data analysis and reporting, process improvement
