Risk Management Officer – Boshoek Smelter

About the role

The Risk Management Officer will oversee the site‑wide risk framework at the Boshoek Smelter, ensuring alignment with Glencore’s corporate standards and South African legislation. You will drive risk identification, assessment and mitigation activities across all operational departments.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update the plant risk profile, registers and assessments.
• Facilitate risk workshops, periodic reviews and catastrophic hazard scenario assessments.
• Drive implementation and monitoring of Fatal Hazard Protocols and critical control management systems.
• Support Management of Change (MOC) processes from a risk perspective.
• Conduct risk‑based audits, inspections and compliance assessments, and track corrective actions.
• Provide input for risk reporting, dashboards and trend analysis for senior management.
• Ensure effective use and data integrity of risk management tools such as Isometrix.
• Offer guidance to line management on risk methodologies and best practices.

Required profile

• National Diploma NQF6 or higher in Risk Management or a related discipline.
• 2–5 years of experience in risk, safety or compliance within mining, smelting or heavy industry.
• Working knowledge of ISO 31000, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001.
• Experience with Fatal Hazard Protocols, critical control management and risk assessment processes.
• Familiarity with Glencore risk standards and Isometrix is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of health, safety, environmental and quality legislation.
• Excellent analytical, reporting and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
• Computer literate with strong presentation skills.
