Registered Nurse – Trauma & Emergency (PB Qualified)

About the role

Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre, advertised through Lenmed, is recruiting a Registered Nurse (post-basic qualified) for its Trauma & Emergency Unit in Durban. The nurse delivers safe, cost-effective patient care in line with hospital standards and policies, and provides direct and/or indirect care to patients or groups of patients, assessing, planning, executing and supervising care.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver patient care in line with the scope of practice and take full responsibility for it
• Contribute to the holistic care of patients
• Attend shift handovers and communicate clearly with patients about their care
• Promote patient health and wellbeing, and maintain good relations with patients, relatives and visitors
• Audit health records to ensure compliance
• Ensure stock is well controlled, managed, charged and credited correctly
• Work independently and adapt to flexible working hours and shifts, including night duty

Required profile

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse or Midwife, or an equivalent NQF 7 qualification (post-basic diploma or degree)
• Relevant qualification and 3 to 5 years of experience in Trauma & Emergency
• Ability to implement and maintain health practice standards required by accredited bodies and health legislation

Required skills

• BLS (Basic Life Support) is compulsory
• ITLS, ACLS and PALS are advantageous
• Computer literacy
