Locum Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic Qualified)

About the role

Lenmed is recruiting a Locum Pharmacist Assistant (post basic qualified) for the Pharmacy department at Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre in Durban. The role provides a pharmaceutical service to the hospital and outpatients, meeting patients' needs responsibly, satisfactorily and cost-effectively.

Key responsibilities

• Stock management: check allocated shelves, place orders, unpack and pack stock using FIFO, process patient credits and pack medication credits daily, carry out cycle counts and quarterly stock takes, investigate variances and move expired or dormant stock
• Emergency cupboard: replenish emergency stock daily, report deviations to nursing, and carry out scheduled audits twice a month
• Dispensing medication under the direct supervision of the pharmacist: charge, pick and pack for wards, considering risk factors, allergies and drug interactions; assist medication stat requests and telephone queries; issue and counsel outpatients, TTO, casualty and WCA patients; prepare pharmaceutical mixtures and follow up on to-follows at day end
• Deliver quality service with available resources, show courtesy and professionalism fitting a private hospital

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF Level 4) qualification
• Pharmacist Assistant qualification registered with the Pharmacy Council
• Work experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy environment
• Ability to cover shifts according to operating hours, including weekends and public holidays
