Regional Accountant – Property Portfolio Finance

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Regional Accountant to manage financial operations within a property portfolio environment in Durban. The role involves maintaining accurate records, overseeing reporting, and supporting operational teams while ensuring IFRS compliance and strong internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain complete general ledgers and perform monthly reconciliations (bank, fixed assets, VAT, clearing accounts).
• Prepare and submit VAT returns via eFiling and manage the fixed‑asset register, including depreciation.
• Create monthly journals, accruals, financial packs, cash‑flow schedules and IFRS‑compliant financial statements.
• Process tenant deposit refunds, commission calculations and approve invoices and overhead expenses.
• Act as EFT signatory, oversee cashbook integrity and prepare monthly financial reports for stakeholders.
• Support audit preparation, identify control weaknesses and implement improvements.
• Partner with property managers, provide performance insights, resolve financial queries and assist with budgeting and system uploads.
• Supervise Creditors and Cashbook Administrators and guide the Assistant Accountant.

Required profile

• Matric and BCom Degree in Accounting (Honours advantageous).
• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in property or portfolio finance.
• Proven ability to prepare IFRS financial statements and exposure to audit processes.
• Strong communication, analytical, problem‑solving and leadership skills.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with accounting systems such as Great Plains or similar.
