Reconciliations Officer, Corporate & Investment Banking

About the role

Standard Bank Group is looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Reconciliations Officer to join its Reconciliations CFID team in Johannesburg, South Africa. This is a contract position in which you will help ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records through careful reconciliation work.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily, weekly and monthly bank reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly
• Reconcile general ledger accounts to supporting documentation and external statements
• Analyse variances and investigate outstanding items to find their root causes
• Prepare detailed reconciliation reports and documentation for audit and management review
• Maintain accurate records of all reconciliation activities and an organised filing system
• Liaise with internal departments and external parties to resolve outstanding issues
• Monitor and track payment processing to ensure timely and accurate transaction recording
• Assist in the month-end and year-end close processes
• Support reconciliation procedures and controls, and contribute to improving their efficiency

Required profile

• Proven experience in reconciliation processes and financial account management
• Solid understanding of general ledger principles and accounting practices
• Numerical accuracy, attention to detail and strong organisational and time-management skills
• Ability to analyse financial data, work independently and as part of a team, and communicate clearly
• Desirable: experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle, knowledge of audit procedures and financial controls, and a background in financial services, banking or accounting

Required skills

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software
• Desirable: advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and data analysis functions
