Principal Engineer - Highways

About the role

AECOM is recruiting a Principal Engineer for its Highways practice in Durban. This is a full-time position for a senior technical resource who acts as a technical advisor to the team and provides specialist input on studies and design within their area of expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialised technical input to studies and design for staff in their area of expertise.
• Develop study and design procedures that enable high-quality, cost-effective work by others.
• Take part in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
• Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical effort for projects.
• Apply expertise across all steps of the PS&E package discipline component.
• Perform quality control reviews of design calculations or drawings.
• Prepare technical specification sections.
• Contribute to the engineering budget and schedule and carry out interdisciplinary coordination on projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 15+ years' experience in highway and major infrastructure design.
• Registered as an engineer with ECSA.
• Demonstrated experience with Main Roads WA projects and standards.
• Proven track record leading multidisciplinary design teams in a consultancy environment.
• Strong commercial awareness, client-facing capability and ability to give clear technical direction.
