Occupational Health Nurse – Comprehensive Workplace Healthcare

About the role

The Occupational Health Nurse will deliver a comprehensive occupational healthcare programme for clients, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and promoting employee wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and evaluate risk‑based medical surveillance programmes, including pre‑employment, baseline, annual, transfer and exit screenings.
• Manage occupational safety, health and waste activities and oversee injury‑on‑duty case administration.
• Respond to medical emergencies within scope of practice and support worker reintegration after prolonged absence.
• Identify and manage chronic diseases early to maintain productivity.
• Provide consultancy and advisory services to line management on absenteeism, sick‑leave management and occupational health matters.
• Ensure compliance with occupational health legislation and investigate client queries within agreed service levels.
• Analyse hazard exposure trends and implement preventative measures.
• Participate in internal and external audits and maintain occupational health equipment.
• Handle administrative functions such as data capture, document and record management while maintaining confidentiality.

Required profile

• National Senior Certificate.
• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing.
• Certificates in Audiology and Spirometry (essential); Vision Screening certificate (advantageous).
• Valid dispensing certificate.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and SASOHN.
• 3–5 years’ experience in Occupational Health Nursing (advantageous).
• Good understanding of the Health & Safety Act and related legislation.
• Valid driver’s licence and own insured vehicle (advantageous).
