Mobile Harbour Crane Operator (Liebherr or Kone Gottwald)

About the role

Africa Global Logistics South Africa is hiring a Mobile Harbour Crane Operator (Liebherr or Kone Gottwald) for its container terminal operations. The operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mobile harbour cranes to lift, load, unload, position and move heavy cargo, equipment and materials within the terminal, in full compliance with safety regulations and operational procedures. The position is permanent and full-time.

Key responsibilities

• Operate mobile cranes to lift, move, position and place containers, cargo and heavy equipment as assigned
• Execute lifting plans and instructions given by supervisors or riggers, and perform precision lifting for equipment maintenance, vessel operations and terminal works
• Inspect cranes before use and report defects immediately; follow safety procedures, lifting standards and load charts
• Maintain safe working areas, coordinate with riggers and signalers, and stop operations when unsafe conditions arise
• Keep the carbin area clean and serviceable, record daily operational logs and report abnormalities, breakdowns or near misses
• Support maintenance teams with feedback on crane performance and communicate with supervisors, riggers, signalers and control room personnel
• Follow shift operations instructions, complete jobs within agreed timelines and support emergency response and recovery operations

Required profile

• Valid Mobile Harbour Crane Operator certification or licence from a recognised authority
• Minimum 2 years' experience operating mobile harbour cranes in port, construction or industrial environments
• High level of physical agility, including climbing, lifting, descending, bending and sitting for prolonged periods
• Ability to interpret load charts, lifting plans and safety signals

Required skills

• Proficiency in operating mobile harbour cranes
• Knowledge of crane mechanics and basic troubleshooting
• Understanding of port and terminal lifting operations
