Mechanical Maintenance Technician – Durban, South Africa

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our plant in Durban. The role focuses on ensuring the efficient operation of machinery and equipment through timely installation, repair, and preventive maintenance while adhering to EHS standards.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve mechanical equipment breakdowns, performing corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance.
• Assess job requirements, select tools and equipment, and execute repairs with minimal supervision.
• Use SAP to order spare parts, record maintenance activities, and maintain accurate logs.
• Monitor recurring failures, propose modifications, and implement solutions.
• Carry out welding, fabrication, and component replacement tasks.
• Mentor new mechanics and support other departments with troubleshooting.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as 5S, suggestion schemes, and hazard reporting.

Required profile

• Diploma in a relevant engineering or technical field.
• Completion of PEC Craft Training.
• Minimum 3 years of mechanical maintenance experience in heavy industry.
• Good command of written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SAP maintenance module.
• Welding and fabrication techniques.
• Use of standard maintenance tools and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, manuals and instructions.
• Strong troubleshooting and installation skills.
