Mechanical Maintenance Technician – Durban

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our plant in Durban. The role focuses on ensuring the efficient operation of machinery and equipment through timely installation, repair, and preventive maintenance while adhering to EHS standards.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve mechanical equipment breakdowns and perform planned, preventive, and predictive maintenance.
• Assess job requirements, select appropriate tools, and execute repairs, replacements, and assemblies.
• Utilise SAP to order spare parts, record maintenance activities, and maintain accurate logs.
• Monitor recurring issues, recommend modifications, and implement corrective actions.
• Perform welding and fabrication tasks as needed.
• Mentor newly hired mechanics and support other departments with equipment troubleshooting.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as 5S, suggestion schemes, and hazard reporting.

Required profile

• Diploma in a relevant mechanical field.
• Completion of PEC Craft Training.
• Minimum 3 years of mechanical maintenance experience in heavy industry.

Required skills

• SAP maintenance management system.
• Welding and fabrication techniques.
• Proficiency with mechanical maintenance tools.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, manuals, and instructions.
• Good computer literacy and written/spoken English.
