Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Kempton Park team. The role focuses on designing and detailing mechanical equipment for the mining, quarrying and materials‑handling sectors, with a strong emphasis on SolidWorks modelling.

Key responsibilities

• Create 3D SolidWorks models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings for equipment such as conveyors, vibrating screens, feeders, chutes and crusher support structures.
• Produce general arrangement (GA) drawings, fabrication drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Assist with conveyor layout planning and perform basic belt calculations.
• Collaborate with workshop, production and procurement teams to ensure designs meet practical requirements.
• Update and revise drawings based on feedback, and maintain technical documentation and data books.
• Ensure all designs comply with engineering standards and safety regulations.

Required profile

• National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2‑5 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in mining or materials‑handling environments.
• Practical exposure to conveyor systems, vibrating screens and crushers.
• Ability to produce accurate fabrication drawings and GA drawings.

Required skills

• Proficient use of SolidWorks (essential).
• Conveyor calculations and component selection.
• Fabrication drawing production.
