Maintenance Technician (Mechanical & Electrical)

About the role

The Maintenance Technician will ensure the smooth operation of mechanical and electrical equipment in a plastic and packaging manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for both preventative and corrective maintenance, minimizing downtime and keeping machinery safe and efficient.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventative, corrective and breakdown maintenance on mechanical and electrical production equipment.
• Inspect, diagnose and repair machinery faults to reduce production interruptions.
• Carry out routine inspections, lubrication, adjustments and replacement of worn components.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, manuals and technical documentation.
• Assist with installation, commissioning, modification and upgrading of machinery.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and implement effective corrective actions.
• Monitor equipment condition and identify potential faults before they cause downtime.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts used and preventative tasks completed.
• Collaborate with production staff and management to ensure equipment availability.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
• Relevant technical qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Millwright or a related trade (preferred).
• 2–3 years of experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance, preferably in manufacturing or packaging.
• Strong knowledge of preventative and corrective maintenance procedures.
• Ability to work independently and respond effectively to breakdowns.
