Maintenance Fitter – Mechanical Maintenance

About the role

We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Fitter to join our mechanical maintenance team in Kempton Park. The role focuses on minimizing plant downtime, maximizing equipment reliability, and extending the life of machinery through corrective, preventive and proactive maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect assigned plant sections, record defects and create job cards in the CMMS.
• Carry out repairs and scheduled maintenance safely and on time, following job cards, improvement projects and maintenance plans.
• Respond immediately to breakdowns, restore equipment, and perform fault‑finding to eliminate root causes.
• Maintain workshop tools and equipment, ensure cleanliness and professionalism.
• Assist in developing maintenance plans, risk assessments, work instructions and audits.
• Participate in daily maintenance meetings, standby duties and overtime as required.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) and a recognised Trade Test as a Fitter.
• Minimum N3 Mechanical Engineering qualification.
• At least 5 years of mechanical and plant maintenance experience.
• Effective communication across all organisational levels.

Required skills

• Basic welding.
• Alignment of rotating elements using a dial gauge.
• Fitment of tyres, bibby, springs, spiders and direct couplings.
• Bearing mounting, removal and maintenance, including bushings manufacture and fitment.
• Lubrication with oils and greases.
• Taper key manufacture and fit.
• Basic hydraulics and pneumatics knowledge.
• Fitment and alignment of belts (V‑pulley, timing) and chain‑sprocket systems.
