Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) Technician

About the role

The MPI Technician is responsible for performing Magnetic Particle Inspection on components, welds and structures to detect surface and near‑surface defects. This role supports quality control and assurance throughout the manufacturing process by ensuring inspections meet all applicable codes, standards and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) on assigned parts and record any defects such as cracks, seams, laps or inclusions.
• Conduct visual inspections before and after MPI testing to verify surface condition.
• Prepare test surfaces by cleaning and removing contaminants.
• Apply magnetic fields and inspection media according to approved procedures.
• Interpret inspection results, determine compliance with quality standards and compile accurate inspection reports.
• Calibrate, maintain and verify MPI equipment to ensure reliable test results.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications and quality requirements prior to inspection.
• Communicate findings to supervisors, engineers and quality personnel and assist in investigations of non‑conforming products.
• Participate in audits and continuous‑improvement initiatives related to inspection processes.

Required profile

• Experience conducting Magnetic Particle Inspection and visual inspections in an industrial setting.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Strong understanding of relevant codes, standards and quality requirements.
• Attention to detail and ability to document findings accurately.
• Good communication skills for reporting to engineers, supervisors and quality teams.
