Learning Officer – Engineering (Diesel & Heavy Equipment Mechanic)

About the role

The Learning Officer Engineering will co‑design, deliver and evaluate training programmes that build safety, technical and leadership capabilities for mining personnel. The role supports the operational needs of Valterra Platinum’s Randfontein site and ensures compliance with industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate engaging training sessions using e‑learning, classroom and on‑the‑job methods, tailoring content for diverse audiences.
• Co‑design comprehensive programmes covering safety, technical skills, leadership and regulatory compliance, in partnership with subject‑matter experts.
• Evaluate training effectiveness, maintain records for MQA/SAQA compliance and drive continuous improvement based on performance data.
• Stay current with legislative and industry changes and communicate updates to learning managers and supervisors.

Required profile

• Grade 12 and NQF5 OD ETDP Level 5 Higher Certificate.
• Recognised trade certificates as an Automotive Electrician and either a Diesel Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
• Assessor and Moderator certificates; ISO 9001:2015 (advantageous); Engineering Foreman Certificate (advantageous).
• Valid EB/Code 08 driver’s licence and at least 5 years of experience as a qualified artisan and facilitator.

Required skills

• Proficiency in training methodologies and adult‑learning principles.
• Instructional design, learning technologies and digital learning platforms.
• Data‑analytics tools for tracking training performance.
• Knowledge of safety management systems, risk assessment and incident investigation.
• Computer literacy and familiarity with South African labour laws and mining regulations.
