Lead Electrical Engineer (MCF) - Data Centre Projects

About the role

Zutari, a buildings, engineering and advisory firm with over 90 years of experience across Africa and the Middle East, is looking for a high-performing Lead Electrical Engineer (MCF). You will lead technical delivery for data centre projects, mentor teams and work with global clients and stakeholders to deliver resilient, efficient and scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and execution for data centre projects across all phases, managing resources, fee estimates, timelines, risks, scope and financial performance.
• Oversee tender processes, including technical reviews and contractor deliverables.
• Draft technical reports, specifications and basis of design documents, and maintain project documentation including BIM aspects to internal QA standards.
• Ensure compliance with international and local standards (IEC, IEEE, Uptime Institute) and deliver resilient, scalable electrical solutions.
• Stay ahead of emerging technologies, maintain vendor and supplier relationships and coordinate multidisciplinary teams with clients and contractors.
• Lead technical workshops, mentor junior engineers and oversee quality of outputs including modelling and data management.
• Represent Zutari at international forums and industry events, and support proposal development and strategic growth initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng/BSc.Eng).
• ECSA registered as a Professional Engineer (PrEng).
• Minimum 8 years' experience in electrical design, with 3+ years in data centre or mission-critical environments.
• Proven leadership in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of local and international codes and standards, including those applicable to South Africa and the Middle East.
• Experience with global and remote teams and international projects is advantageous.

Required skills

• Knowledge of LV/MV systems, UPS, standby power and earthing.
• Electrical load calculations, fault level analysis and protection coordination.
• Familiarity with hyperscale and colocation data centre environments.
• Proficiency in ETAP, EOM, Dialux, Windchill, ACC, Revit, Navisworks and BIM workflows.
• Understanding of sustainability and energy efficiency in electrical systems.
