Junior Fire Engineer

About the role

AVC Fire Engineering is looking for a motivated Junior Fire Engineer to join its technical team. The role focuses on supporting the design and delivery of fire engineering solutions for commercial and industrial projects, offering hands‑on experience with fire safety drawings, escape routes and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing rational fire designs in line with SANS 10400 and other regulations.
• Develop and update fire escape plans, evacuation layouts and safety signage drawings.
• Create fire engineering drawings and technical documentation using AutoCAD or similar software.
• Support fire risk assessments, site inspections and compliance audits.
• Help compile municipal submission packages and related documentation.
• Review architectural and engineering drawings to identify fire safety requirements.
• Liaise with architects, engineers, contractors and clients during project execution.
• Assist in preparing technical reports, specifications and compliance certificates.
• Stay informed of fire engineering standards, legislation and best practices.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with excellent attention to detail.
• Good written communication and teamwork skills.
• Valid driver’s licence is advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD (essential).
• Familiarity with SANS 10400, SANS 10139 and SANS 10287 fire safety standards.
