Junior Design Engineer - Drive Systems

About the role

HNB Drive Systems designs and supplies drive system and mine winder solutions to the mining sector, partnering with leading mining houses across South Africa. It is looking for a bright, driven junior Design Engineer to join its engineering team, reporting to Breton Green. The role suits a recent graduate or early-career engineer with a strong academic record who wants to build a career in drive systems and mining-related engineering. The position is permanent, based at Linbro Business Park, Sandton, with a salary of R40,000 to R50,000 per month CTC, negotiable on academic performance and potential.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in designing and developing mechanical and electrical components for drive systems used in mining applications.
• Support senior engineers with concept development, technical drawings and design validation.
• Take part in testing, troubleshooting and continuous improvement of existing designs.
• Liaise with the drafting and production teams so that designs are manufacturable.
• Contribute to technical documentation and design reports.
• Learn and apply industry standards relevant to the mining sector.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering qualification (BEng Electrical/Electronic Engineering).
• Strong academic record.
• Sound understanding of engineering design principles.
• Willingness to learn and be mentored.
• Good problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills.
