Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator – IPC

About the role

The Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Coordinator will lead the hospital’s efforts to maintain the highest standards of infection safety for patients and staff. This position combines clinical expertise with strong leadership to develop, implement, and monitor IPC programs.

Key responsibilities

• Apply infection control fundamentals, including identification of reservoirs, transmission modes, and antimicrobial use.
• Assess laboratory findings, prioritize critical pathogens, and determine when environmental monitoring is required.
• Lead isolation measures, conduct epidemiologic investigations, and design surveillance systems for tracking infection cases.
• Develop, review, and update IPC policies in collaboration with health authorities.
• Implement strategies to reduce infection spread and integrate quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Communicate IPC practices to healthcare teams and external partners, and lead outbreak investigations.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualification with registration on the South African Nursing Council.
• BLS certification (advantageous).
• Advanced computer literacy.
• Excellent knowledge of infection prevention and control principles.
• Post‑basic qualification in IPC (advantageous).
