Independent Contractor – Senior Internal Auditor & Audit Manager

About the role

MNO Consulting, a South African professional services firm, is expanding its panel of independent contractors to deliver internal audit, risk advisory, governance and assurance services across a broad range of industries. We are looking for experienced internal audit professionals at senior levels to join us on a project‑basis.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, execute and report on risk‑based internal audit engagements.
• Perform financial, operational, compliance and governance audits.
• Assess design and operating effectiveness of internal controls and develop risk and control matrices.
• Identify control weaknesses and provide practical, value‑adding recommendations.
• Prepare high‑quality working papers, audit reports and present findings to senior management.
• Manage audit engagements from planning through reporting, including supervision of junior team members.
• Support proposal preparation and client relationship management (for Manager level and above).
• Conduct engagement quality reviews and provide strategic oversight (Associate Director level).

Required profile

• Significant experience in internal audit, risk‑based auditing and assurance.
• Strong knowledge of internal control frameworks, enterprise risk management and GRC.
• Proven ability to assess control design, write audit reports and perform quality assurance reviews.
• Experience auditing core business processes such as P2P, O2C, R2R, treasury, payroll, fixed assets and tax compliance.
• Excellent communication skills for presenting findings to executive stakeholders.
