HT Technician – Maintenance & Hydraulic Systems

About the role

The HT Technician will provide proactive technical assistance to maintenance teams on complex mechanical and hydraulic systems within Kumba Iron Ore’s mining operations. The role focuses on enhancing plant performance, reducing downtime, and ensuring safe, reliable equipment operation.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in safety audits, inspections and demonstrate safety leadership.
• Oversee installation, commissioning and post‑installation testing of infrastructure according to specifications, schedule and budget.
• Monitor maintenance progress against plans, report status and help minimise downtime.
• Provide proactive support to maintenance personnel and respond to service requests.
• Identify components causing excessive downtime and implement permanent solutions.
• Test equipment and machinery for functionality and safety before returning to production.
• Facilitate failure‑analysis investigations to determine root causes and develop corrective actions.
• Train maintenance staff on new system maintenance procedures.
• Design, install and commission new hydraulic systems or modifications.
• Maintain healthy stakeholder relationships to ensure compliance with technical standards.

Required profile

• Relevant certifications and qualifications meeting South African legal requirements.
• Ability to apply electrical and mechanical engineering principles to solve technical problems.
• Strong analytical skills for failure analysis and continuous improvement.
• Effective communication with stakeholders and maintenance teams.
