Hinterland Operations Manager (Freight Forwarding)

About the role

Africa Global Logistics South Africa (AGLSA) is looking for a Hinterland Operations Manager to lead the import and export operations team in Johannesburg. The role also supports the Front Office with pricing, business implementation and customer meetings, implements and monitors the national road freight procurement policy, and reports to management and the Middle Office.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and develop the team: ensure members know their responsibilities, master the tools and processes, and share knowledge; ensure equitable workload sharing.
• Drive the business unit's operational performance, assess risks, service quality, financial balance and project profitability, and ensure compliance with regulatory obligations such as customs, security and TSA.
• Implement and monitor the national road freight procurement policy, negotiate rates with transporters twice a year, approve suppliers nationally, oversee tender requests and manage contracts with the back office.
• Monitor supplier service quality, act as main contact for country partners, and report issues and proposals to management.
• Ensure the quality of operational data in TMS, EDOC, DMP, LINK, TRANSWISE and PROGRESS, and support the development of these tools.
• Support the Front Office on visits, tenders and solution implementation, propose KPIs, and update customers on price and service changes.

Required profile

• Matric and relevant qualification.
• 5 to 10 years of road freight forwarding experience.
• 3 to 5 years of staff management experience in a freight forwarding environment.
• Cross-border operations management experience is essential; multimodal freight forwarding experience is required.
• Knowledge of overborder and national long-haul routes, processes and rates.
