Head of Technology

About the role

The Academy is an innovative, fully online school delivering high‑quality, individualized education to learners from Grades 4–12. As it enters its next phase of growth, the Academy seeks an experienced Head of Technology to join the executive leadership team, shape the technological vision and lead a multidisciplinary team of eight. The position is 100% remote, starts on 1 November 2026, and reports directly to the CEO.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver a multi‑year technology strategy aligned with the Academy’s educational model and growth ambitions.
• Lead the continued evolution of the Academy’s proprietary EdTech platform.
• Build a collaborative, accountable, high‑performing team by setting clear expectations and developing individual strengths.
• Guide technical and architectural decisions to ensure systems are secure, integrated and scalable, overseeing POPIA compliance, cybersecurity and disaster recovery.
• Advise the CEO on technology opportunities, risks, investment decisions and emerging technologies such as AI.
• Manage technology budgets, vendors and external partners.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading, developing and motivating a multidisciplinary technology or engineering team.
• Track record of scaling software platforms or technology functions within a growing organisation.
• Ability to move confidently between strategy, technical decisions, team leadership and practical problem‑solving.
• Experience developing technology strategy that supports wider organisational goals.
• Strong knowledge of cloud environments, APIs, systems integration, databases and modern software development.
• Experience managing budgets, vendors and build‑versus‑buy decisions.
