Head of Financial Operations (CA SA) – Johannesburg

About the role

Join a leading South African construction and turnaround project management firm as the Head of Financial Operations. You will oversee the full accounting function for all group entities, ensuring compliance with IFRS and South African tax regulations while supporting complex projects across energy, petrochemical, mining and industrial sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the financial accounting function for all subsidiaries and manage monthly cost meetings with senior leadership.
• Prepare monthly journals, balance‑sheet reconciliations and detailed variance analysis between budgets and forecasts.
• Oversee creditor payments, cash‑flow management, asset management and WIP follow‑ups across the group.
• Provide mentorship to junior accountants and manage the debtors/creditors team.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements.
• Leverage financial technology tools to improve operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification – mandatory.
• Minimum 6 years post‑article experience, with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
• International exposure, preferably in Mozambique, Namibia, Mauritius, UAE, Saudi Arabia or Kenya.
• Fluent English; Portuguese proficiency is an advantage.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (especially IFRS 15).
• Expertise in South African tax laws and regulations.
• Experience with Buildsmart software (advantageous).
• Proficiency in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management.
