Geomet-Chemist

About the role

SGS, a global inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is hiring a Geomet-Chemist in Randfontein. The role covers the day-to-day management, planning, coordination and operation of the Geomet department, including supervision of operators and quality control of test work.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Geomet department, including equipment and facility use, maintenance, repairs and servicing
• Supervise human resources, including training, recruitment and disciplinary matters
• Carry out test work independently and supervise operators
• Route samples, improve workflows and resource utilisation, and attend client meetings when needed
• Prepare accurate log sheets, quality checks on test data, presentations and project update reports
• Log samples in the Laboratory LIMS system and report non-conformances to the Quality and Laboratory Manager
• Ensure housekeeping, health and safety in the Geochem Fire Assay and sample prep departments, and communicate policy changes to staff
• Comply with ISO17025 and SANAS quality requirements and the company's QHSE policy

Required profile

• Grade 12 or NQF Level 4
• Minimum BSc or N Diploma in Chemistry
• At least 3 years of experience in a similar field
• Able to follow written instructions precisely and with good communication skills
