Geomet Operator

About the role

SGS, a global inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is hiring a Geomet Operator in Randfontein. The role covers hands-on laboratory work in the Geochemistry department, including crushing, milling, screening and titrations, and keeping the lab and pilot plant area tidy.

Key responsibilities

• Assist senior staff with test work and follow written instructions.
• Fill in log sheets correctly and ensure turnaround times are met for the Geomet department.
• Carry out work unsupervised: crushing, milling, screening, particle size determination, bulk cyanide leaching, free cyanide and residual titrations, filtering, and preparing samples for analytical submission.
• Ensure work is done correctly to avoid contamination, sample loss and sample swaps, and that equipment is clean before and after each test.
• Keep the laboratories and pilot plant area clean and tidy.
• Work in other parts of the Geochemistry laboratory if required, and adhere to quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
• Perform other reasonable tasks assigned by the direct line manager.

Required profile

• B.Sc., BTech or National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry.
• At least 5 years of experience in the relevant field.
• Solid management and supervisory experience.
• Ability to validate and report results.
• Knowledge of solid fire assay.
