Quality Manager - Laboratory (ISO 17025)

About the role

SGS, a global inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is hiring a Quality Manager for its Randfontein facility (Geochem and Affiliates). The role implements and maintains the quality system so that the laboratory complies with ISO 17025:2005, SGS SA high-level procedures and SGS Global requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Operate to the highest standard of ethics as directed by the SGS integrity policy and take part in strategic planning for the quality function.
• Maintain documentation and standard operating procedures required for ISO accreditation, manage document control and ensure Management of Change is followed.
• Facilitate and monitor method validation, review quality control data for trends and biases, and raise IRs for non-conforming data.
• Determine control limits for standard reference materials and update the LIMS system.
• Facilitate external audits, follow up on action items, review PT results, evaluate and monitor re-assays, and coordinate the re-assay billing database.
• Coordinate quality improvement systems, assist with root cause analysis of proficiency testing data, investigate customer complaints and provide planned quality-related training.
• Plan and facilitate management reviews, and take responsibility for all quality system deadlines (IRs, audit NCs, customer complaints).
• Comply with health, safety and environmental requirements, participate in the Laboratory continuous improvement program (WCS), and apply the Stop Work Authority when risks are not clearly understood.

Required profile

• BSc, BTech or National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or Science, or equivalent laboratory knowledge recognised through Recognition of Prior Learning.
• ISO or College Quality Assurance Program diploma.
• Grade 12 / Matric or N3 with Mathematics and Science.
• 8 years of work experience in a testing environment.
• 5 years of management system experience (ISO 9000, 17025 or other).
