General Worker – Civil Maintenance

About the role

We are seeking a General Worker for civil maintenance within the Department of Water and Sanitation, based in the Breede/Gouritz area (Worcester) of the Western Cape. The role requires an ABET certificate and involves a variety of manual and grounds‑keeping tasks across departmental schemes.

Key responsibilities

• Load and unload furniture, equipment and goods to designated locations.
• Clean government vehicles, machinery, equipment and workstations.
• Maintain lawns, prune trees, rake, mulch and irrigate grounds.
• Repair tools, fences, buildings and other structures using hand and power tools.
• Mix, spray or spread fertilizers with manual or automatic equipment.
• Upkeep sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters and other ground features.
• Assist in cleaning and repairing water supply infrastructure such as canals, drains, dams and pipelines.

Required profile

• ABET certificate (mandatory).
• Matric qualification; higher qualifications are an advantage.
• Experience in manual labour or grounds maintenance is beneficial.
• Willingness to work away from home and travel to various sites across the Western Cape.

• Operation of fertilizer sprayers or spreaders.
