General Worker – Maintenance (2 Posts)

About the role

The Department of Water and Sanitation is seeking two General Workers to perform routine and structural maintenance at gauging stations across rivers, canals, dams and related sites in the Western Cape.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine maintenance such as painting, weed control and vegetation clearing using hand and power tools.
• Perform structural repairs, replace steel components and maintain embankments at gauging structures.
• Clear and maintain access roads, refurbish gauging stations and construct weirs and related infrastructure.
• Assist with technical tasks including instrument installations and flood monitoring.
• Maintain camping facilities, machinery, equipment and tools; load and unload materials as required.

Required profile

• Willingness to work away from the office for extended periods in field conditions.
• Ability to work safely near rivers, dams and canals and comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
• Physical capability to handle manual labour, load equipment and perform maintenance tasks.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools.
• Proficiency with power tools.
