General Practitioner – Primary Care Physician

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated General Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary team at the Eastern Province Sports and Wellness Institute in Port Elizabeth. The role is full‑time and on‑site, supporting patients across two clinic locations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide primary care services including comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, treatment and follow‑up for acute and chronic conditions.
• Conduct physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications and manage referrals.
• Maintain accurate medical records and use electronic medical record systems for documentation.
• Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions with physiotherapists, biokineticists, psychologists and other health professionals.
• Support preventive health initiatives, lifestyle counseling and wellness screenings.
• Deliver patient education and uphold clinical governance, ethical and regulatory standards.
• Engage in institute‑specific training to adopt the EPSWI clinical ethos.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBChB or equivalent) with valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
• Proven experience in primary care, family medicine or general practice.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic and treatment‑planning abilities across a broad range of conditions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient‑centred approach.
• Commitment to preventive medicine, lifestyle counselling and holistic health.
• Organisational and time‑management skills to handle a busy patient schedule.
• Willingness to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and engage in continuous learning.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and basic digital documentation tools.
