General Assistant – Cape Town

About the role

The General Assistant supports daily kitchen operations in Cape Town, ensuring equipment, utensils and work areas are clean, safe and ready for production. You will work closely with kitchen staff to maintain high hygiene standards and comply with HACCP regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Wash, sort, dry, pack and store equipment in designated areas.
• Inspect equipment for labels, damage or wear and report any issues to the line manager.
• Complete documentation accurately, including breakage records and temperature controls.
• Clean and store tables, shelves, trays, crates and oven racks; ensure sufficient clean crates are available.
• Clean all machines and equipment at the end of each shift and report faults.
• Maintain overall cleaning and hygiene standards, using chemicals correctly.
• Follow HACCP rules covering personal hygiene, CCP documentation, food storage, hand‑washing, glove and sickness policies.
• Communicate effectively with other kitchen departments and report any wastage.
• Ensure all duties are completed before the end of the shift and perform any other reasonable tasks assigned by management.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• At least 1 year of experience in a kitchen or production environment.
• Ability to follow job and safety instructions.
• Capability to work independently without supervision.

Required skills

• HACCP compliance.
