Gangstar Café Team Member – Barista & Assistant

About the role

The Gangstar Team Member supports the Gangstar Café by delivering legendary customer service, preparing quality food and beverages, and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment. The role involves working as a general assistant and relief barista both in the Mowbray café and at external mobile events.

Key responsibilities

• Take customer orders and serve them with a customer‑first attitude.
• Prepare food and beverages according to the menu and present them professionally.
• Clean kitchen surfaces, wash dishes and keep the workspace hygienic.
• Wipe tables, tidy chairs and ensure the café floor remains presentable.
• Cover staff shortages by relieving café team members when needed.
• Purchase stock for the café and events, handling returns as required.
• Upload invoices and receipts onto the Dext system and assist with cash reconciliation.
• Maintain coffee trailer and wagon equipment, cleaning and preparing it before and after events.
• Set up and break down event venues, ensuring all equipment is packed and the space is reset.

Required profile

• Active member of a local church who participates in community service.
• At least two years experience as a barista or general kitchen assistant.
• Valid South African driver’s licence held for more than three years and ability to pull a trailer.
• Willingness to attend daily prayer sessions, weekly devotions and other organisational activities.
• Personal accountability and readiness to seek support from a line manager or mentor when needed.

Required skills

• Barista qualification or equivalent training.
• Experience operating a Point of Sale (POS) system.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
• Basic email communication skills.
