Freight Forwarding Contract Operations Assistant

About the role

Africa Global Logistics South Africa (AGL) is hiring a Contract Operations Manager Assistant (dedicated contract) in Johannesburg. The role assists the Contract Operations Manager and is accountable for the end-to-end operational, commercial and contractual management of a dedicated customer contract, covering performance, customer satisfaction, profitability, compliance and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and execute a dedicated customer contract and act as the main operational interface with the customer
• Ensure contractual obligations, KPIs and service commitments are met, and run operational reviews weekly, monthly and quarterly
• Oversee day-to-day transport and logistics operations, including fleet utilisation, route planning, driver management and asset productivity
• Build a strategic partnership with the customer and lead, motivate and develop staff
• Take accountability for department P&L, prepare budgets, forecasts and management reports, and ensure accurate financial reporting and reconciliation
• Prepare and present departmental reports on KPIs, financial, safety and operational performance
• Promote a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with QHSE standards, and lead incident investigations and corrective actions
• Supervise daily depot operations, load planning, route optimisation and scheduling, and monitor planning versus actual performance

Required profile

• Matric
• At least 5 years of experience in transport management
• At least 2 years of experience as a manager
• Knowledge of transport methods, costs and benefits
• Good attention to detail, complex problem-solving skills and excellent communication

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Good use of email
