Forward Deployed Engineer

About the role

Proformant is looking for a curious, adaptable Forward Deployed Engineer with 2-3 years of relevant experience to help clients improve how their businesses operate through its A4 Framework: AI, Automation, Analytics and Advisory. The role is based in Pretoria or Johannesburg, hybrid, with about three days per week travelling to client sites and the rest working from home. You will work directly with client teams, turning business problems into practical technical solutions, and is expected to lead routine client engagements within six months.

Key responsibilities

• Understand client operations and requirements, map processes and turn business needs into technical requirements and delivery plans.
• Apply AI, automation, analytics and advisory to solve practical business problems.
• Build solutions using SQL, Python, APIs and other tools to analyse data, connect systems, automate workflows and develop small software solutions.
• Develop reports, dashboards and data transformations that help clients understand performance.
• Manage projects, coordinate stakeholders and specialists, and lead client engagements while managing expectations.
• Use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Codex and Claude to support analysis, development and delivery.
• Test solutions, document how they work and help client teams use and maintain them.
• Turn lessons from engagements into reusable templates, components and delivery practices.

Required profile

• 2-3 years of experience in a technical, analytics, automation, business systems or consulting role.
• Ability to establish requirements and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Project management, coordination and strong communication skills.
• Curiosity, adaptability and a practical approach to problem-solving.

Required skills

• Strong practical SQL and working knowledge of Python.
• Git and GitHub for version control.
• Confidence using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Codex and Claude.
• Advantageous: ERP or accounting software, Power BI, dbt, MRI Property Management or Yardi systems, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric or AWS, workflow automation tools, API integrations and small business applications.
