Fitter – Machine Repairs

About the role

Ardagh Glass Packaging is seeking a skilled Fitter to support machine repairs and maintenance in its Johannesburg plant. Working under the Machine Services Foreman, you will help keep production equipment running efficiently and ensure a customer‑centric approach for internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Attend minor breakdowns and promptly report major failures.
• Prepare and execute job changes, assisting with job settlement.
• Carry out preventative and planned maintenance on a range of equipment.
• Perform fault finding, repair machine components and conduct general upkeep.
• Inspect all machines within your responsibility area on a regular basis.
• Implement agreed standards, use measurements for continuous improvement, and review jobs to boost performance.
• Identify and resolve recurring production issues.
• Maintain safety compliance, adhere to TAKE 2, 5S and LOTO procedures, and conduct risk assessments.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / N3 Mechanical Fitter qualification.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in an FMCG environment.
• Ability to work under pressure, overtime and standby as needed.
• Strong attention to detail, good communication skills and a customer‑oriented mindset.
• Own set of tools and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Required skills

• Mechanical fitting and knowledge of belt drives, conveyor belts, crushers, pneumatics, hydraulics, furnaces, weighing systems, pumps, gearboxes and drives.
• Understanding of compressors and driers.
• Welding and gas‑torch proficiency.
• Familiarity with 5S, LOTO, risk assessments and measuring instruments.
