Expert Bulk Materials Handling Engineer

About the role

WSP is seeking an Expert Bulk Materials Handling Engineer for a 1–2 year fixed‑term contract in Limpopo. The role involves providing specialist project engineering and technical oversight for major coal, ash disposal and bulk materials handling projects across the full project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert engineering and technical oversight for ash disposal facilities, coal facilities and bulk materials handling works.
• Review project, tender and construction package documentation before tendering and throughout execution.
• Assess construction and interface requirements for conveyors, transfer houses, pump stations, pipelines and mechanical installations.
• Oversee ash disposal areas, pollution control dams, clean water dams and drainage systems.
• Advise on coal stockyards, stackers, reclaimers, conveying systems and emergency stacking requirements.
• Support construction, commissioning, testing, operational readiness and handover.
• Engage with clients, suppliers, contractors and multidisciplinary stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
• Prepare expert reports, performance dashboards, assessments and completion‑readiness documentation.

Required profile

• BSc in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 15 years’ experience in a senior coal, ash or bulk materials handling position.
• ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer or equivalent.
• Extensive project construction or engineering management experience in large, complex organisations, preferably utilities or infrastructure.
• Strong stakeholder, supplier and contractor engagement skills.
• Ability to work independently and deliver high‑quality outputs within time and budget constraints.
