Experienced Field Service Technician - Industrial Electronics

About the role

MekaIES, a provider of industrial electronics, renewable energy, safety and security systems and engineering consulting, is strengthening its field-service team in Cape Town. This is a permanent, full-time, skills-based position reporting to the Technical Manager, open to experienced technicians with strong practical competence in industrial electronics and UPS systems; a tertiary diploma is not required.

Key responsibilities

• Install, commission and maintain UPS systems (1 kVA to 500 kVA), industrial electronic equipment and associated field-service systems
• Troubleshoot and repair VFDs, servo drives, SMPS units, instrumentation, control boards and industrial electronic equipment
• Perform structured fault diagnosis using schematics, measurements and component-level testing
• Install, replace batteries and integrate lithium batteries under applicable safety requirements
• Provide preventive and predictive maintenance across client sites
• Carry out panel wiring, upgrades and instrumentation repairs (HMI, touch screens, controllers)
• Support repair and maintenance of industrial machinery such as CNC machines, injection moulders, packaging and bottling lines, cranes and elevators
• Prepare diagnostic notes, repair recommendations and quotation inputs, liaise with customers and take part in rotational standby duties

Required profile

• Strong practical experience in industrial electronics, power electronics, automation, mechatronics, instrumentation or related fields
• At least 5 years of substantial hands-on experience in industrial electronics or field service is strongly preferred
• Matric or equivalent preferred; technical certificates or trade qualifications are advantageous
• A valid Code B driver's licence is advantageous; reliable attendance and ability to reach assignments are essential
• Knowledge of workplace safety and willingness to work within company authorisation and supervision requirements

Required skills

• Hands-on repair of UPS systems, VFDs, servo drives and industrial equipment
• Reading electrical and electronic schematics and structured component-level fault diagnosis
